Somehow CTRL + SHIFT + J is registered as a linebreak. To replace commas with newline characters use this formula (assuming that the text to be altered is in cell A1): Edit: here's a screenshot of this working - I had to turn on 'Wrap Text' in the 'Format Cells' dialog. This will replace each comma with a new line. You can use the shortcut to insert a line break to move the words to next line as you need. Click at the location where you want to move the last words to the next line, and hold Alt, and press Enter key, then the words behind the cursor will be moved to the next line in the cell. To add spacing between lines or paragraphs of text in a cell, use a keyboard shortcut to add a new line. Double-click the cell in which you want to insert a line break. Click the location where you want to break the line. Press ALT+ENTER to insert the line break.

There's 3 ways to get a carriage return or paragraph return or line feed within a cell.
Method 1 - Cell Wrapping
Often, you need only set the cell to wrap text, and you can set the width of the cell to whatever is desired. Choose FormatCells, Alignment tab, and check Wrap text.
This is the result:
Method 2 - Insert a Return
This one's a no-brainer. Just type the first line, hit Alt+Enter and type the second line. The result is virtually the same as above, however, if you copy and paste this to Word, for instance, you'll end up with a line break. Or if you export to CSV or other text format, you may get unexpected results.
Method 3 - Using a Formula

To use this, you must have wrap text selected. Here's a sample formula:
=a1&char(10)&a2
The results, again, are the same as above. However, if you forget to wrap text on the cell, you'll see this:

This is a bit of a quickie tip but I scratched my head on it for a few hours one day.
If you use Office:Mac Excel, you may from time to time need to capture multiple lines of information into a cell. If you come from the Windows world, you will quickly come to realize that Alt+Enter doesn’t work.
If you want to insert a new line in Excel for the Mac, select the cell, type your first line and press Alt+Cmd+Enter.
Microsoft Excel Enter New Line In Cell
There you have it, insanely easy.
It’s your turn!
